For this edition of Meet the Musicians we’re heading back to the Free Music Archive.
Jahzzar, aka Javier Suarez, helped to solve another one of those problem song areas.
In this case, I wanted to use No Doubt’s classic Just a Girl. We went back and forth with their people. It wasn’t a case of not liking the project, or wanting too much money (see tomorrow’s post). It was instead a case of just not feeling it.
So I had this lovely edited section, and no music.
I wanted something that had a vaguely ska or early ’60s vibe. Hammond organ, clean beat, that sort of thing.
The Free Music Archive hooked me up with Jahzzar. He’s from Spain, and is doing some really cool stuff. Including Take Me Higher from the album Tumbling Dishes Like Old-Man’s Wishes. With it’s up front organ and modern-yet-retro vibe, it was ideal.
He has a full 30 albums posted to the Free Music Archive and is doing the standard creative commons licensing. As long as I don’t make a profit, I’m fine to use his music. But ideally, the project WILL make a profit and go into distribution. And that means I need to have the funds to be able to license his work.
Jahzzar works from the site Better With Music. Couldn’t have said it better myself.
