I like to be unabashed, which is an Indian trait, both emotionally and visually. It’s important to have a circus to play with.
- Filmmaker Mira Nair
I’ve long been a fan of director Mira Nair. I first became aware of here through Salaam Bombay and Mississippi Masala.
While a number of her films are set in India, others, like Vanity Fair, bring her unique vision to settings far from her native land. Mississippi Masala is an inter-racial romance set in the US South.
She’s an Oscar-nominated director and if you haven’t seen her work, view it as part of the Directed by Women global screening party (share on social media #DirectedbyWomen).
